Counselling Services in Victoria, BC and online

WHY COME TO COUNSELLING?

There are many reasons you may be considering counselling. Stress, anxiety, relationship troubles, new or old trauma, major life changes, and family issues are all very common reasons that people reach out.

All of these challenges are part of life, but sometimes they can be overwhelming. When your usual ways of coping don’t seem to be working anymore, counselling can help you find your way back to yourself.

Sometimes, it just really helps to have someone to sit with you and help unpack all that you are carrying. A counsellor should be a great listener, but also more than that — a fresh perspective, a guide to new skills and tools, a person to hold the hope when you are finding it hard, a compassionate light shining on places that can be hard to look at, a safe container to unravel old trauma, and more. You and your counsellor will work together to integrate your whole self — body, mind, heart and spirit. Working in the “here and now” and listening especially to your nervous system, helps us to move beyond merely talking about what isn’t working.

Counselling Services Victoria BC

Our counsellors are a team who share core values, and are also all individuals with their own style. Each brings different training, and different life experiences, to their work. Our counsellors are all master’s level clinicians or students, with additional training in somatic, relational, and other varied approaches such as CBT, narrative therapy, and more.

Whether you have never seen a counsellor before, or have seen many in your life, getting started with someone new can be daunting. It can also be an incredible investment in yourself, and in your relationships with the people who matter most to you. If you’re feeling ready to take the first step, we are ready to meet you on the journey.

Remember, counselling is not only for times when things are falling apart! In fact, it can be really beneficial to invest in yourself through counselling when you are not in crisis. Psychotherapy can be a powerful tool for self reflection, for deepening your capacity for meaningful relationships, and for developing a fuller and more compassionate relationship with yourself.

Sometimes life simply throws us too much to handle on our own. No matter what you are facing, you don’t have to go through it alone. Reach out and let’s connect you with one of our competent and compassionate therapists.

Bodymind Counselling offers individual therapy and couples therapy, both in person and online. We do not offer counselling for children or teens under 18, nor do we offer family therapy.

Sliding Scale Counselling

Bodymind Counselling is happy to provide reduced-fee counselling sessions as a service to the community. We know not everyone can afford the full fees but we believe everyone should have access to support when they need it!

We have a practicum program in which counselling students from accredited Canadian master’s programs gain experience providing counselling to clients, while receiving intensive supervision and support.

First sessions are offered for $30. After the initial intake appointment, sessions with a practicum student are $60. These sessions may still be eligible for coverage by your extended benefits plan, if it covers the services of a Registered Clinical Counsellor.

These students are completing a practicum of 12 months in length, which offers clients the opportunity to have a longer-term relationship and more sessions than many other short-term, sliding scale options can provide. After the students graduate, some stay on as Interns and can continue seeing their clients at a new $100 fee for 6 months.

More information about working with a student can be found here.

Is your counselling service covered by insurance?

Many extended benefits plans in BC cover the services of a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Please check your plan specifically to ensure it covers Registered Clinical Counsellors. Unfortunately, MSP does not cover private practice counselling services at all. Counselling sessions provided by practicum students are generally not covered by extended benefits.

Can I book therapy sessions online?

Yes! If you are an existing client, or know who you’d like to book with, you can book yourself on our online booking page.
