Therapy for Support with your Important Relationships
COUNSELLING TO IMPROVE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS AND GUIDE YOU THROUGH CHALLENGES
Humans have evolved to be in community and connection with others, and our important relationships are a source of well-being for many of us. In fact, statistically, significant loneliness leads to health problems and even premature death. But even while our primary relationships can be a source of great support, they can equally be the source of our most intense hurt and distress. Bodymind Counselling is here to help you in your important relationships.
Most people experience challenges in one or more of their significant relationships over the course of their lifetimes and whether it be parent-child, partner, friends, coworkers, or any other important connection, this disharmony has a deep impact. While we do offer couples counselling, we find that many of our clients come to us because they are experiencing conflict in other areas of their life. Therapy is an important step back towards harmony for relationships of all types, and therapists at Bodymind Counselling are highly trained and experienced in helping you to navigate the relationships in your life more skillfully. We use our holistic, body-centered approach to help you learn to ground yourself even as you gain new skills and insights.
FAMILY CONFLICT
From estrangement with a parent, sibling, or other close family member, to ongoing challenges and unaddressed past trauma, we know that conflict within families has a big impact. You do not have to navigate family conflict without support, and we encourage you to book an introductory appointment with a member of our team today to see how we can help. Therapy is a wonderful way to begin to understand and work through the conflict you experience with your family relationships.
RELATIONSHIP CONFLICTS IN OTHER AREAS OF YOUR LIFE
At Bodymind, we work with individuals at all stages of life who are struggling with a variety of relationships. This is a normal part of life, but you do not have to simply endure these challenges alone. With the support of a therapist, you can gain new insight and learn new skills that will allow you to communicate more clearly and regulate your nervous system as you navigate your relationships. Whether it is a friend, coworker, or any other person in your life, conflict can cause high levels of stress, and therapy is an important tool to support you.
COMMUNICATING WITH GREATER EASE
Communication is the key pillar of our relationships, but many of us experience barriers to effectively communicating. At Bodymind, our therapists will help you with communication skills, including the grounding and self-regulation you need to be able to communicate and connect even during heightened moments. Seeking help from a therapist is a sign of strength, not weakness, even if taking the first step can feel scary. Reach out to our team today to get started.
Frequently Asked Questions about Relationship Counselling
-
No. While it is often helpful if other people who we are in relationships with are also accessing therapy and working on their own healing, when you seek support with relationship challenges, our therapists will center you and your experience. By learning to understand your own reactions, ground yourself, and understand your needs and boundaries as well as unpacking your own role in the conflict, you can begin to shift the dynamic within your relationships and set boundaries that will allow you to step outside of harmful patterns.

Estrangement, whether you initiated it or not, can be very challenging to navigate, but it is more common than you may think. Working with a therapist is a powerful way to address the grief, trauma, and patterns that may be involved in your estrangement. You may be experiencing conflicting emotions and external pressures, and we will use our multi-modal, body-based approach to help you explore the feelings, sensations, and experiences you are going through with compassion and curiosity. While family estrangement is a significant challenge for most people who experience it, a supportive relationship with a therapist can be a really helpful part of your process.

Most extended benefit plans do cover the services of a Registered Clinical Counsellor or a Registered Social Worker, but please check your plan to confirm. Unfortunately, MSP does not cover private counselling services.
We believe everyone should be able to access therapy, regardless of their financial situation or income. Bodymind Counselling offers counselling sessions with highly trained and carefully selected student counsellors, who have completed the academic portion of a Masters in Counselling program. These students are hand-picked from a long list of applicants, and undertake a 12 month practicum at our clinic. They offer sessions both in person, and via secure video therapy. These sessions cost $30 for your first appointment and $60 plus GST for subsequent appointments.
Students receive intensive supervision and lots of instruction during their 12-month practicum, and are able to provide clients with a longer-term relationship and more sessions than many other short-term, low-fee options can provide.

While this varies greatly from person-to-person, clients experiencing acute challenges often benefit from approximately 6-8 appointments, while clients unpacking complex and chronic problems may need more. We know that time and cost are a barrier for many of our clients, and we will work hard to make every appointment count for you. Some people may experience great relief almost immediately, and others may want to work with their therapist over a period of months or even years.
